Basic Mathematics For Preschoolers
You can try to teach your preschooler how to add and subtract by using coins or other smaller items. Some can get this right away, but most won’t. This is because they have not had the basic mathematics that they should as a foundation. You may think that this is the most basic form of math, but there are other things that should come first. I didn’t know what they were until my daughter went through kindergarten. The things that are foundations for math were rather surprising to me.
One of the things that her class focused on in the way of basic mathematics was the concepts of big, bigger, and biggest, along with small, smaller, and smallest. Though these seem like simple things, and most children will pick up on them right away, they do need to be repeated. You can find some good books that go over these things in some very creative ways. Your child will be getting basic mathematics without realizing that they are learning anything. To them, it’s a fun book. You can also take the time to demonstrate these things on your own with objects from your own home. They will learn better if you use their own toys as examples.
There are also things in basic mathematics that work with special themes. That is means they can learn about distances both up, over, around, and down. They can learn how to judge how close things are to each other, and how to do that from many angles. These lessons in basic mathematics are also much easier than they sound. Look around for preschool books that deal with this concept, or find fun sites online that has games that helps with these basic fundamentals.
Basic mathematics for preschoolers is also about the things you may associate with math quite naturally. Though you may want them to learn to add and subtract, counting may be something that you should concentrate on. They can do some basic adding, but subtracting may come second. Keep the numbers low if you want to work on those. However, be sure to concentrate on counting all types of items, and be sure to mix them up so they are counting different things as one group. These basic mathematics principles are going to help them out tremendously when they start school. Don’t stress too much though, as they will learn this in school easily enough.

Summary
Basic mathematics for preschoolers tend to use the simplest math possible so they can grasp the concept of less and more. Use play time to teach about which items are biggest and which are smallest. You can also try teaching math using money. If your little one does not quite get it, don't worry. School does teach the basics and skills are built on that knowledge.
