Cathedral Stained Glass Windows
Know a lot of different people with a lot of different opinions on architecture, but none of them can argue with the fact that cathedral stained glass windows are absolutely beautiful. There is something so amazing about architectural glass. Most people take windows for granted in designing buildings, but cathedrals are different. The glass – normally thought of as empty space – becomes the central point of the artistry. Beautiful and dramatic images of saints in all types of scenes adorn the walls of the church, as if the saints themselves were present.
The first time I saw cathedral stained glass windows, I almost cried myself. I was on vacation in France, and we were at the Notre Dame Cathedral. I did not actually see them at first. I was very small at the time, you see, and going on a trip with my parents. What I noticed was the beautiful light on the floor, illuminating the edges of the church in various hues. When I finally looked up, I was awestruck by what I saw. It was just so big and so impressive, and the ambient light from the sky became downright divine when it shined through the church stain glass windows.
I am not a Catholic, but years later when I became a preacher in my church I knew that I wanted to do something to try to imitate the glory of cathedral stained glass windows. I consulted a church member who was also an architectural glass expert, and had him come up with something. It took us months, and we had to go through numerous meetings with the church board, but finally we had a plan. We have some of the most beautiful designs you could ever hope for. They are much more abstract than what you see in cathedral stained glass window displays. Instead of lifelike scenes, they merely depicted the image of the cross among an abstract background. Nonetheless, I knew that were what we were looking for. I could feel it in my heart.
You can't quite capture the glory of Cathedral stained glass windows outside of their context. In a modern church, they don't have the same kind of terrible, beautiful, Gothic glory. Nonetheless, they are still quite impressive. A lot of people think that – as far as worship is concerned – all the emphasis should be on the word of God. I disagree. I think that creating a worshipful atmosphere is every bit as important. Through stained glass Gothic windows, I like to think that I've done just that.

Summary
Cathedral stained glass windows are one of the most beautiful additions to architecture that have ever been created. The designs and patterns can be so intricate that you find yourself just staring at the workmanship in awe and wonder. These creations have the power to lift the human spirit above everyday life.
