Fun Field Trips For Home Schooling Families
There are some that insist that home schooled children often miss out on many things that their peers in public or private school get each day. There may be some truth to that, but there are things parents can do to be sure that is not the case in their family. Some of the things they may miss out on are socializing with peers, outings, extracurricular activities of all sorts, and many sporting teams. There are many school districts now that allow home schooled children to participate in all of these, and many do. As far as field trips go, parents can make up their own if their children do not participate in the ones sanctioned by the school.
There are many great ideas for field trips for any family if you know what is going on in your town. Each list for each community is going to be different, of course, as each town or city has their own unique sites to see and things to visit and do. Museums are always a common and logical choice, so visit them if they are in your town. If not, look around in places nearby to see what they have to offer. If you find things are far away, plan a few stops for your field trips and take the entire day to see them.
There are other things you can do for field trips, however. Don’t discount the simple things. If you have an scenic areas in your community, those are great spots to go learn about nature. You could even have a small hike and take a picnic lunch with you. Combine what you find with what you are learning with your science lessons at the time. Not only are these educational, they are something the entire family can do together as a school outing. You may even want to go to the business district and have a stroll through town. You can talk about each business you see, what they do or make, and what it means to your local economy and way of life.
If you seem to run out of ideas, there is no harm in calling your local school district for help. Explain that you home school your children, but you have run out of ideas for field trips. They should be more than happy to give you some recommendations. They may even want your children to go on some that the school does each year.
