If you have been involved in the corporate world for more than a couple of years, you probably have at least some experience with corporate team building. Corporate leadership, after all, is such a catchword nowadays that everyone is getting into developing specially tailored events. There are a lot of common stereotypes about corporate events. Most people, when they hear the term corporate teambuilding, thinks of rope courses, trust falls, and that sort of summer camp thing. Although corporate retreats can include that sort of activity, they do not have to. In the past few years, corporate culture has changed markedly, and these might not be the best corporate team building strategies for your company. The reliance on a tough, physically powerful, male-dominated corporate culture is dated, and physically-based corporate team building events are no longer the only way to go. As I said, they still work for some companies, but there are many other choices available.
With corporate retreats, the sky is the limit. Instead of relying on one set velocity of corporate team building, you need to think about your company and its own specific needs. In the office where I work as a manager, for example, we are a very tight knit group of people. We all go out for drinks on the weekends, and most of the people in the office love to sing karaoke now and then. That is why, for our corporate team building events, we decided to do something musically oriented. We split into teams and rewrote lyrics to popular songs based on certain things that we discussed in meetings. Of course it was corny, but it was also a lot of fun. Through the corporate team building, we were able to capitalize on our hobbies and interests to build a more tightly knit work group. This is what corporate events should do. Of course, there are many other kinds of corporate team event. You can even invent your own. corporate team building, of course, has to involve a core of substance. Problem solving is a must, as is working together. Nonetheless, it should also be fun. Sometimes, a scenic outdoors retreat is what is needed. Activities like yoga, kayaking, hiking, and backpacking can give everyone the chance to know each other better. Other times, a hip urban environment is a great way to take a quick corporate retreat. Less preparation is required, and everyone can be back at work the very next day. That is good news for corporate productivity! Summary: Corporate team building is just as important today as it has ever been. Teams get more accomplished than an individual. Trust in others is a big piece of life and trust in co-workers is even more so. Some companies have retreats where people can interact outside the office environment. Any activity which allows people to get to know one another outside of work only helps wuth relationships and gives the company higher productivity.
