Marble And Granite

Although many contractors like the look of granite and marble, few of us like to work with it. Marble and granite countertops, while beautiful, are notoriously difficult to fabricate, finish, and mount, and notoriously easy to break. Marble and granite floor tiles are a little bit better, but not that much. Most of the people who order marble or granite are pretty picky about the way that it looks. Even the slightest scratch will not go unnoticed. Basically, a single mistake can ruin the whole marble and granite counter, costing the contractor hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

This is why I like my custom design of marble and granite countertops so much. Basically, I take Granite slabs and install them as countertops. Then, and only then, do I shape them. It gives a more organic design, which means that people pay big bucks for it. Although it takes a lot more time to do it this way, it does have some advantages for the contractors well. Not only does it make me a lot of money, but it removes a lot of the risk of working with marble granite. Because it is installed in a fairly raw form, the marble or granite is not susceptible to scratches. Even if it gets banged up on installation, I can always fix it while I am sanding it down and preparing it.

Of course, not everyone can afford this type of marble and granite, and furthermore, not everyone wants it. People who want a simple standard shape for their marble countertop – which is probably most people – Don't really want to pay the extra money for a custom-designed job. With a variety of different sizes and shapes of marble and granite available, I can understand why. Because there are many different grades of marble and granite, you can actually get all the stone work that you want at a very reasonable price if you are willing to look around. One of the best ways to do this is to look in old recycled building supply catalogs. Basically, if you are willing to use recycled building supplies, you can get your marble and granite dirt cheap. You have to look around for them, and you might not get exactly what you want, but then again you might find something uniquely beautiful and unusual.

Marble and granite are common types of material for use in home decor. Custom design and fit are what most people desire in their homes. The likelyhood of scratches ruining the finished look is very low if the piece is cut and shaved in place. Scratches can be sanded away. Traditionally, these materials are costly in themselves, but you can find discounts and great deals online if you shop around.
