Marble Sculptures
Of all the materials known to man, there is probably no other material that adds so much dignity to art, especially an art like sculpture, than marble. For centuries now, marble sculptures have been the epitome of dignity and aesthetic excellence for scores of sculptors worldwide. Some of the most famous sculptures as we know them, right from David to the fascinating sculptures of the various anonymous Greek heroes, are all fine examples of marble sculptures.
But what is it that makes marble sculptures such a passionate indulgence with sculptors and art buyers alike? After all, neither is marble the most abundant stone on earth and nor is it the easiest to work with. So why the fixation with marble? The answer to this question may be found in the fact that the exclusivity of marble makes it that much more prized to sculptors and art lovers alike. Sculptors who are keen to give their art a stately elegance and grace turn to marble while art lovers buy marble sculptures for the very same reason.
But there are a couple of other reasons that make marble sculptures such an universally loved and accepted phenomenon. Marble by its very nature is an igneous rock. And like all igneous rocks, marble comes with certain intrinsic properties that add to its charm. Marble can be polished with relative ease to give it a sheen unlike other, more commonly found sedimentary rocks. This ensures that after the sculptor has finished hacking and shaping it, he can give it a fine polish to make the surface gleam, leaving no trace of the efforts that went into hacking the rock. The only other material that seems capable of such a property is granite, itself an igneous rock.
Marble also comes with various shades and shapes etched into its structure by the heat of the earths bowels. It lends the stone a sort of quixotic charm that manifests itself as apparent shading on works of art. This is what has often enthralled artistes with its seeming reflection of human frailties and imperfections. There is a belief among artistes that only god can create something that is perfect. So, marble with it’s translucent imperfections seems to satiate their sensibilities that they aren’t offending the creator by creating marble sculptures that are perfect or near perfect.
Even by themselves, marble sculptures are a pleasure to look at and admire. And many a stately homes in various parts of the globe have often employed them to breathtaking effect.

Summary
Marble sculptures are basically forms created from igneous rock. Artists prefer the dignity of marble and granite due to the finishing gleam after polishing. Marble itself is exquisite and unique. It is very graceful and adds an air of elegance to any environment.
