Mattress Protectors

image

My daughter was potty trained at the age of two. Though we still put pull-ups on her every night for the next six months, she prided herself in being a ‘big girl’. However, there were several times that the pull-ups came in quite handy. Her little body simply didn’t wake up when she had to go to the bathroom. Sometimes the pull-ups were able to hold it all completely, other times, her sheets would be soaked in the morning.

I had received two packages of mattress protectors at my baby shower, several years before this. I had understood why it was a good idea to use mattress protectors, but never fully appreciated them until the days of bedwetting. Suddenly, it made for easy clean up and no annoying yellow stains on her mattress. They’re easy to wash, easy to put on the mattress and comfortable to sleep on as well.

When my daughter was a baby, the mattress protectors came in handy when she would throw up or a bottle would spill. Obviously, the mattress protector is still around and being used in our household. Of course, they aren’t just used for babies and toddlers. They’re ideal for older children who still battle bedwetting and older adults who may not be able to make it out of bed in time to make a trip to the bathroom. A lot of nursing homes will use them; hospitals take advantage of them too. Any time you want to protect your mattress from being soiled from anything, using mattress protectors is the key.

My husband and I have one on our bed as well. We put it on once we discovered that our cats were putting claw marks in the mattress when they would attempt to jump onto our bed. With having a mattress protector, it has eliminated that problem. Sure, we have little claw marks in the mattress protectors but not nearly as bad as the damage that was being done to our mattress. Plus, buying protectors is a lot less expensive than buying a new mattress once it gets ripped to shreds. If you have animals that sleep with you, having a mattress protector isn’t a bad idea. If they have an accident, get sick in your bed or are slowly damaging your mattress, it just may be beneficial to you. They are not expensive to buy and they come in all different sizes to fit tiny mattresses and king sized as well. They can be found almost anywhere that you would go to buy sheets. They also have pillow protectors also, though they make your pillow seem more uncomfortable than it needs to be. So if you’re looking to keep your mattress for many years and would like to keep it in as great of shape as possible, you just may want to consider protecting it.

Summary

Mattress protectors are very handy to have around the house, especially if you are caring for small children or an elderly person. They also come in handy if you have pets that enjoy sleeping on the bed with you. Most are inexpensive and can be found to fit every size of bed. Pillow protectors are available as well. Investing in mattress protectors can help save you money in the long run.
