Mixed Media Art

image

Mixed media art has been a sort of hobby of mine for about a year now. Although I started in oil paintings art, I quickly discovered that I didn't have a talent for it. I would much rather work with my hands, getting viscerally involved in my art. Mixed media artwork lets me do that. I get to work with clay, paints, cloth – many different colors and textures. I find it exciting and dynamic. Nonetheless, when one of my friends told me that I should try to sell my artwork, it sort of threw me into a panic. I wasn't prepared for how I reacted to it.

It made me realize that I really wanted to take my mixed media art to the next level, but that I was afraid. I decided that the only thing to do was to meet more mixed media artists and talk to them about how they went about becoming serious about their work. There was an artist retreat nearby in a couple months, and I signed up for it. It was excellent timing, because it was just when I was off from work and I didn't have vacation plans yet. I figured that if I didn't know where I was going with my mixed media art by then it would help me, and if I did, I could still use it to meet other singles in our community. It turned out that it helped me with both.

It was a strange coincidence, but the very next day I met a mixed media artist who was going to the retreat. We got to talking, and realized how much we had in common. For the next couple weeks, we met every Sunday to eat lunch together and talk about mixed media art. By the time the retreat happened, We were both extremely geared up for it. It did not disappoint us.

The mixed media arts conference was one of the best events of my life. Not only did I get to talk about mixed media art, work on my own artworks, get feedback from experienced artists, and trade ideas with other aspiring artists, but I also got to meet some very fascinating people. One woman in particular stands out. She has been involved in mixed media art for several years now, and she sort of took me under her wing. Soon, one thing led to another and we were romantically involved. Now not only do I have a great girlfriend, but I also have someone to talk about mixed media art with. Things couldn't get any better!
