Model Shops Do you have a hobby? The reason I ask you is that the topic of today’s discussion is very closely linked to a hobby. In fact, it was due to hobbies and hobbyists that model shops – the topic of today’s discussion – actually came into being. If you are still not clear what the connection is, then maybe it is time I introduced you to a whole new genre of hobbies. Model shops are hobby shops that sell do it yourself models of ships, airplanes and other such items. For the sake of convenience, let us first take the singular example of airplanes. Most model shops which are worth being called model shops would have several different models of planes for the average consumer to choose from. To describe them succinctly, these model shops stock these model kits because there are people who are passionate about buying and assembling them. In more cases than not, the owner of the model shops would in all probability be ex-hobbyists themselves. Anyways to get back to the point, these model kits could be bought and they typically come with a detailed set of instructions. All the parts (mostly made of some sort of wood or Styrofoam) are contained inside the model kits and the users or hobbyists would simply have to follow the instructions to create and use them. While most model shops stock model kits that are simple enough for beginners to build and operate, some of the specialty model shops stock model kits that are more elaborate and naturally more expensive. It is indeed a pleasure to browse through such model shops. Not only are the model kits in such shops more lavish than other kits available in lesser model shops, they are also much more engaging and can lock up a hobbyist for a good length of time. After all, ask any hobbyist and she or he will reveal that a model kit that occupies them for hours together and challenges their skills and creativity is always preferable to model kits that don’t take as long to build and are rather simplistic. Although this may sound paradoxical, the thrill of the model kit lies in the completion and successful completion at that. I too have spent a fair amount of time building model airplane out of kits that I have picked up from model shops. And trust me when I say that after the library, the model shops are the next best and most engaging invention of modern mankind.
