Tips On Making Your Moving Truck Rental A Happy Venture

image

Everyone dreads moving, particularly if you've lived in your current home for a number of years. No one realizes just how much they've accumulated over the years. Unless you're one of those organized anomalies of humankind, you're in the same boat as the rest of us. You look forward to your new home, yet you know from experience that it's going to be an exhausting nightmare.

We've all spent long evenings, into the wee hours, packing and sorting and labeling all our furnishings, knickknacks, clothes ... oh my, how the list goes on. As moving day gets closer, you wonder how you'll ever pull it off. As you contemplate the moving truck rental, your main concern is how to get all that stuff in the truck without using a crowbar, and having everything arrive in one piece.

You think moving truck rentals are basically all the same, which is true, to a degree. It's the fine print and the integrity of the moving truck rental agency that can make the difference between a happy adventure and a frustrating nightmare. Here are a few pointers to guide you to a successful, hassle-free moving truck rental.

Moving truck rental agreements always require that you are at least 25 years old, for insurance purposes. If you're under 25, be sure you can line someone up who will drive the truck. Further, you must have a major credit card with sufficient credit available for the deposit and charges for the number of days you'll need to have the truck. A debit card won't work. Be sure to ask when the rental day ends: is it 24 hours after you sign the rental agreement, or a specified time of day? You don't want to arrive an hour late and be charged for another day.

You'll be asked if your insurance policy covers moving truck rentals. If you don't know, call your insurance agent to find out before you go rent the truck. If not, the moving truck agent will sell a short-term policy to cover your move. This will add to your cost, but if you were to have an accident without coverage, it would definitely ruin your day.

Ask about road service in the case of a breakdown or malfunction of the air conditioning. Do they send someone out to repair it? How do they deal with such mishaps?

Typically, moving truck rentals do not include blankets to protect your furniture. Blankets are rented separately, for a nominal fee. This extra is worth the money. Count the blankets before you leave the agency.

Don't forget to fill the gas tank before you return it. Otherwise, the agency will fill it - usually at a higher per-gallon price than you can find yourself.

Now, all that's left is to load the truck, drive and then unload. That's quite enough, don't you think?
