Offender Search

image

About a year ago, a friend of mine called me and told me that they’d finally found their dream home and purchased it for a great price. Apparently, it had been on the market for almost six months and though it was gorgeous, no one seemed to be interested in it. She thought that it was just meant to be. I figured there had to be a reason why a seemingly perfect house in a great neighborhood would sell for a low price. A week after they settled into the house – she and her husband and two small children, a neighbor stopped by to welcome them. In welcoming them, she said that she admired their bravery. Of course, my friend needed to know what they were brave, so she asked. About thirty minutes later, she called me, hysterically screaming that the house right next door was home to a registered sex offender. That’s why no one had wanted to buy the house. That’s why the owners wanted to move. Apparently, the offender had a passion for young children. Since they couldn’t turn around and sell the house immediately, s

he went crazy with putting up a huge fence for the backyard and installing a high tech alarm system. Those kids were never outside without her being glued to their side.

Thanks to modern day technology and the incessant need for people to be aware of their surroundings, the government has made it easier to check out what offenders may be lurking in your current neighborhood or where you may be moving. Conducting a sex offender search is easy and quite satisfying. In taking the time to conduct a sex offender search, you’ll know how close someone lives to you, a daycare center, a friend who frequently babysits or your child’s schools. Of course, all information is supposed to be simply that – information. It doesn’t give you permission to camp out on their lawns protesting their existence. You might want to, but that isn’t legal. The purpose of an offender search is to allow you to see their photos and names and be aware of your neighborhood. Nowadays, you can’t be too safe. Not all details are released on the sites that you may be able to access. You may not know their exact crime, but it’ll give you a pretty good idea of what the offenders have done. Some sites will even go

so far as to tell you what towns they are employed in, so that you know if there is an offender working near your house even if they don’t live nearby.

An offender search could have saved my friend quite a bit of grief, money and fear. She may have found out who the neighbor was before she fell in love with the house. However, it has made her very aware of everything around her at all times. She claims that she barely even sees the neighbor. However, taking five minutes to have checked into a sex offender search would have been wise. There certainly wouldn’t have been any harm in knowing who is around you. Even if you don’t have children, I would still recommend a sex offender search. One can never be too careful.
