Restraining Orders I think it’s sad that there has to be such things as restraining orders, but they do have a very good purpose. I know a few times when I have witnessed behavior that has lead to such a thing, and it makes me wonder if some people are living under a completely different idea of what reality really is. You might hear about these when it comes to celebrities for the most part, but there are many reasons why anyone else might want to get one. You have to prove you are in danger, but there are times when they are necessary. I know of one woman who got restraining orders as a result of her actions concerning a children’s entertainment group. I know that sounds nuts, but it is very true. She went as far as to track down one member, and even found his home number and harassed his wife over the phone. She claims his music makes her ‘rise from her sleep at night’ and ‘knows’ they are destined to be together. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t have waited as long as he did to have the restraining orders put into place. Sadly, there are many regular folks who have to get these, and usually the fear is much more real and much more imminent. The problem is that they can be hard to get and they can be hard to enforce. Many women have to get them to get away from abusive relationships, but quite often the call to the police to say the restraining orders are being violated come to late. Sometimes the police are so busy they can’t get there fast enough, and there are even times when they think it is a false alarm and don’t bother. If you think you need restraining orders against someone, go about it as soon as you can, and try to take along as much proof as you can get. Though you may be denied at first, you have to keep trying if you think your life might be in danger. When and if you get them, tell all of your friends and family about the restraining orders so that they can help you if something were to happen. I have seen stories on the news where friends or family were not aware of the order, mostly because they were ashamed that they got into the situation in the first place, and the person walked right up and killed someone. Summary Restraining orders are becoming more and more commonplace. These law documents are being issued to men and women for all sorts of behavior that is not socially acceptable. Some people do not have the sense to know when enough is enough and will not stop harassing others.
