Help Out With School Supply Kits
I always wonder if there is something that I can do to help out those that struggle each and every day. While I am not rich by any means, things are better for me than they ever were for my parents. I remember they struggled to get my brothers and I the things that we needed, even when both parents were working full time. I wish that no student had to go without the basics. There are many things you can do if you feel like me, and one would be to put together some school supply kits to donate to your local schools.
When you want to put together some school supply kits, remember that you don’t have to make a ton of them to make a difference. Even putting together just five or ten can help as many children. Though there are some things that schools always supply each year, the number of supplies each child must have on their own continues to rise. They are not terribly expensive, but are still something a struggling family does not need. You can help them with the school supply kits that are getting bigger than ever.
You can call your local school and tell them that you want to help out by donating some school supply kits. What is going to happen depends on the district. You may even want to see if you can start a program that allows others to do the same as you, and through which families can send in their names and their needs. Each grade and even each classroom as different needs, so you may want to see where the need is the most and decide what you can afford to give in the way of supplies.
For kindergarten school supply kits, you may have to get different things, but there are some basics that every child may have to have. They could use a pencil box, pencils, crayons, safety scissors, pocket folders, washable markers, and at times, colored pencils. Some classrooms need glue or glue sticks. That may sound like a lot, but these items can all be gotten very cheaply. Each of these school supply kits can be made for ten dollars if you know where to shop. Kits for older children may be even smaller and easier to get as they don’t need as much for their learning endeavors.
High school children may need different things for their school supply kits that might be more expensive. If this is something you want to do, you could even try to have a fundraiser or two, or perhaps get the PTA/PTO involved. They usually have good ideas and may like your project so much that they help you out with it. You don’t have to do school supply kits either. You could just donate large amounts of one thing like loose leaf paper, pencils, inexpensive calculators, or whatever else would be most useful to the students in question.

Summary
School supply kits can be a real money saver for families that may not be able to afford the yearly cost. If you'd like to help out, make a few extra kits for those around your neighborhood you know would appreciate them, or donate them to the school for students in need.
