Science Summer Camp

The long summer school vacation need not be boring. For children interested in scientific subjects, Science Summer Camps are lots of fun and educational too. There are several well thought of companies that organise such camps, combining a healthy outdoor life, traditional camp pastimes and learning about different aspects of science.

Swift Nature run camps on an Earth Science program in Wisconsin, teaching children about nature through hands on scientific experiments. Campers will participate in counting butterflies and eagles' nests and will study at the pond aquarium. There are field trips to a local fish hatchery and children will release fish into the waterways. Canoeing and backpacking trips are organized in the State Park and children will learn how the experts control a forest fire.

Emagination Computer Camps are Summer Science Camps with locations near Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Boston. There are different kinds of camp, covering the ages from 8 to 17 years old. In addition to the Computer Camps, there are Specialty Technology Programs, including 3D Animation Film Camp and Game Design Camp. The organizers make sure the kids have plenty of leisure time too and there are opportunities to swim, throw a Frisbee, do kickballing, and play video games. The Boston camp holds soccer and basketball workshops. Each camp has an end of camp party.

Club Scientific runs camps across various locations in Georgia, for the 4 to 13 age group. The 2009 season has been announced and there will be 17 different Science Summer Camps on offer, split into appropriate age groups. For children aged between 4 to 5 years old, programs include Junior Chemist and Little Engineer. Ages 6 to 8 can enjoy Young Scientist, Young Physician or Little Robot Inventor and 9 to 13 year olds have Emergency Vet, Video Game Maker or Robot Inventor.

The Cub Creek Science Camp takes place at the Bear River Ranch at Rolla, Missouri. There are over 80 different activities at this Science Summer Camp and trips to the nearby cave and hickory forests. Children stay in comfortable cabins and have the use of an internet café. Week long courses include a range of scientific disciplines, including Chemistry, Botany, Geology, Entomology, and Physics. Other courses include Computer Presentation. The camp has a number of pet animals, which the campers will get to know, including a kangaroo, snake, tortoise, and parrot. Children are also given free time in which to go swimming in the pool, fishing, and hiking. They can also learn about crafts, such as pottery and the sport of archery.

Seacamp at the Florida Keys is the place to go for children interested in Marine Science. The location is ideal and the camp is close to the only living coral reef, still in existence in the United States. Campers will learn about Ocean Ecology and Marine Organisms. In addition to the Marine Science program, there are courses on scuba diving and sailing, in which children will learn about wind, tides and currents. Arts and Crafts, Music and Photography are supplementary courses.
