Security Door Locks For the most part, I am okay with the lock that we have on our door. We live in a small community with a very low crime rate, so I feel good about how things are where I live. However, there are other nights when I wake up wondering if we have enough, even though I usually think it is fine. I think I may have to go out and get something more, just so that I do not have to worry on those odd nights when something does not feel right. No matter where you live, you may want to make sure you have the security door locks that make you feel safe. Exterior doors always come with a simple key turn lock that is in the knob. That is great, but it is far from what anyone needs. Even if you live five miles from anyone else out in the middle of nowhere, you are not safe from home invasion. You never know what can happen. You want other security door locks that will make it hard for some random person to come into your home. They may find other ways, and those are things that you should address, but be sure you have the right security door locks so that they can not stroll right on in with little to no resistance. Some of the security door locks that you may want to consider are the sliding locks. These are great in many ways, but you have to know they are only as strong as the screws that are holding them to the door and the frame. The bar may stop entry, but if someone bangs on it hard enough, the screws could come out and the door will come open. If you have one of these, use it as a back up to other security door locks that you can have in place. Deadbolts are good as secure door locks, but as with the others, you so want to be sure they are securely fastened. You can use the two or three types together for a sense of peace. Don’t forget that some security door locks can come with an electronic keypad, which can be great if you lose your keys. Just make sure that they will not malfunction in bad weather, or if someone were to just smash them. If that is the case, they are basically worthless. Get the best you can buy so you can sleep a whole lot better at night, and so that you feel more secure when you are away from home for any reason. Summary Security door locks are a matter of safety for all. Doors that have a simple turn key lock are more likely to be broekn into as they do not offer more protection. The entire system needs to be reinforced. The frame itself has to be firm, as does the hardware installed. Deadbolts are very good at preventing unwanted intruders.
