Spice Rack When I'm at work, I am somewhat of an organization freak. Everything has to be in the right place at the right time or else I go insane! The first thing I do every day, in fact, is to organize my entire desk. Sometimes it will take me half an hour or longer, but it is always worth the time investment. After all, it makes the rest of my day that much easier and more efficient. That is why so many people are surprised when they see my kitchen. It is a mess! The counters are almost never cleared, and there are baking supplies everywhere. I never even really thought about it until one of my friends was blunt enough to point it out. She told me that, if I just invested in a few simple tools, I could make my life much easier. I realized that she was right. The first thing I did was to set up a good spice rack. You see, I had spices everywhere. I discovered about a year ago that spices were the key to good cooking, and since then I have been growing my own spices and accumulating more exotic ones from the local gourmet food store. Practically every day, I fill a new spice jar with freshly dried herbs from my garden, so you can imagine that I accumulate a lot of ingredients! The problem is that it always takes me a long time to find them. I have a spice rack, but it is one of those pullout varieties. It is a pretty poorly designed spice cabinet. Basically, it is a drawer filled with small bottles. I knew that there was a better way. At first, I thought of buying a magnetic spice rack from a store, but it didn't seem to make a lot of sense. I couldn't find one that was right for my kitchen, and I knew that spice racks were easy to make. I decided to make my own, and it worked wonders! I had some extra wall space available in my kitchen, so I decided to make a wall mounted spice rack. All of the spice jars are now clearly displayed, so anytime I need something it is easy to find it. Besides that, I organized my kitchen cabinets, cleaned out my refrigerator, and generally got my act together. It really has made my life easier. Cooking takes about half as long as it used to. Not only do you need a way to keep herbs and spices together, you also can add some unique decor looks using the colors of the spices themselves.
